Sterling Silver Acoma Pottery Compass Pendant. The parrot design has been popular at Acoma since the mid-1880s. This design comes from a pot dated between 1880- 1900. Parrots and Macaws were imported and kept in the villages since 1100 AD. The bird feathers were highly valued and used for ceremonial purposes. In Pueblo culture, birds act as messengers between humans and gods.
