The Sterling Silver Acoma Pottery Compass Pendant is a stunning symbol of the art of the American Southwest. The parrot design on this compass pendant has been popular at Acoma since the mid-1880s. This compass pendant design comes from a pot dated between 1880- 1900. Parrots and Macaws were imported and kept in the villages since 1100 AD. The bird feathers were highly valued and used for ceremonial purposes. In Pueblo culture, birds act as messengers between humans and gods. The Acoma Pottery Compass Pendant is set with a working compass approxiamtely 20MM in diameter (about the size of a quarter).
